Hiking: Sedona's Majestic Trails - A Hiker's Paradise

Sedona offers some of the most spectacular hiking in the country. I do have to tell you though, it’s not a secret. Sedona is the second most visited place in Arizona, after the Grand Canyon. The hiking trails can get extremely crowded and parking is limited. Don’t let that deter you, the extra planning is worth it.

Cathedral Rock Trail - 1.2 miles with an elevation gain of 741 ft.

This iconic hike offers stunning views of Sedona's red rock formations and is known for its spiritual energy and vortex sites. We found this trail to be beautiful and serene. The canopied forest surrounding Oak Creek offers a cool reprieve from the Arizona heat.

Bell Rock Trail - 0.8 miles with an elevation gain of 203 ft.

Bell Rock is an iconic natural landmark in Sedona, renowned for its distinctive bell-shaped formation and stunning red rock scenery. This is a popular trail and is so much fun. The panoramic views of the surrounding landscape are breathtaking!

Airport Loop Trail - 3.3 miles with an elevation gain of 429 ft.

The Airport Loop Trail in Sedona is a scenic hiking trail renowned for its breathtaking views and relatively easy accessibility. Beginning near the Sedona Airport, the trail winds through the mesmerizing red rock landscape, offering panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountains. It gets its name from the airport atop the mesa where you hike. We were lucky to see an incoming airplane, which was wild! The plane is so close to the trail you feel like you could reach up and touch it! The plane looks like it is going to crash into the side of the mountain as it lands on top of the mesa!

Table Top Mountain - 0.5 mile spur off Airport Loop

Table Top Mountain offers a unique outdoor adventure amidst the stunning red rock scenery of the region. As its name suggests, the flat mesa-like summit of Table Top provides panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, making it a popular destination for hikers and photographers alike. The hike to the top is moderately challenging, offering a rewarding ascent through rugged terrain and juniper-studded slopes. Once at the summit, visitors are treated to breathtaking vistas of Sedona's iconic red rock formations, sprawling valleys, and distant mountain ranges. With its peaceful ambiance and awe-inspiring scenery, Table Top Mountain provides an unforgettable experience that showcases the natural beauty and rugged allure of Sedona's wilderness.

Another popular activity for the daring is an ATV/ Jeep tour for an extreme off-road adventure.

A couple of adventures we missed the first time around that we will be doing next time are paddling the Verde River and hiking to Devil’s Bridge, Sedona’s largest natural sandstone arch.

Camping Adventures in Sedona's Red Rock Country

Sedona offers a multitude of lodging options. Camping opportunities also run the gamut. For a more secluded and adventurous experience, venture into the Coconino National Forest for RV boondocking opportunities, where you can immerse yourself in the tranquility of the red rock landscape. This is one of our favorite boondocking locations across the country, the views from the RV are unbelievably spectacular!

Experiencing the unique energy vortex

Sedona is famous for its vortices. A vortex is believed to be a swirling center of electromagnetic energy. These vortex sites are said to amplify spiritual experiences, meditation, and healing. There are 4 main vortexes in Sedona. We checked out 3 of them. There isn't a sign telling you that you have arrived, apparently, you are just supposed to feel it. I can't say I felt a different "energy" but they are all areas worth checking out due to their sheer beauty. I do think Sedona in general has captivating energy to it. It definitely draws you in. Whether you're a believer or simply intrigued by the mystique of Sedona, visiting a vortex site offers a chance to connect with nature, gain insight, and find inner peace amidst the awe-inspiring red rock landscape.
